The trip to Okunoshima~*

This is late, but late is better than never right?

I am taking some time off from my studying and work and do up this guide to clear up my mind for better studying later. *A tip from my programming lecturer. :D

Alrighty, for all those who do not know where is Okunoshima, it is actually an island somewhere off Hiroshima. The description as quoted from wikipedia "Ōkunoshima is a small island located in the Inland Sea of Japan in the city of Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is accessible by ferry from Tadanoumi and Ōmishima"

The map of Okunoshima

Why visit Okunoshima? This island has a long history from back in WWII times, acting as a secret base for the Japanese Army at that time to produce chemical weapons, namely mustard gas and tear gas.

A short description on the gas storage bunker on Okunoshima

It has been abandoned since the end of WWII and is now a paradise to thousands of rabbits living on the island. It is a MUST-VISIT place for rabbit lovers!

You smellll..... like... foooood!

So how do you go to Okunoshima? First you are require to take a Shinkansen to Mihara Station and then catch the Kure Line to Tadanoumi Station!
Tadanoumi Station
A vicinity map
After you exit the train station, you will have to turn right and walk along the main road outside the train station.

A 5 minute walk at most to reach the railway track
After a quick walk you will see the sign that point to the Ferry Terminal!
Cross the railway track and you will reach the port!

At the Tadanoumi port, you will be able to purchase your tickets to board the ferry. The ferry ride is about 15~20 minutes depending on the weather conditions. So unless you intend to stay overnight on the island resort, it is best that you take note of the train timing and ferry timing as they are not exactly in sync. Missing a train could meant that you will have to wait for 45 minutes to 1 hour for the next available train.
